Screen Print vs Heat Transfer vs Embroidery

Which printing method is right for your team? Here's how the three techniques VT Apparel offers compare on cost, durability and finish.

Choosing a printing method isn't just a style decision — it affects durability, cost per piece, and how your logo actually looks once it's on fabric. Here's how the three methods VT Apparel offers compare.

Screen Printing

Ink is pushed through a fine mesh stencil directly onto the fabric, one colour layer at a time. It's the most cost-effective method for larger quantities and solid, bold logos or text, and it holds up well on cotton and cotton-blend garments. The more colours in your design, the more it costs, since each colour needs its own screen — so it's best suited to simple, 1–3 colour logos printed in bulk.

Heat Transfer

Your design is printed onto a special film, then heat-pressed onto the garment. It handles full-colour, photographic, or gradient designs that screen printing can't reproduce economically, and it's efficient for smaller quantities since there's no per-colour setup cost. The trade-off is that heat transfer sits slightly on top of the fabric rather than soaking into it, so it can feel a touch less breathable on very hot days and isn't the first choice for garments that get heavy wash-and-wear.

Embroidery

Your logo is stitched directly into the fabric with thread. It's the most durable option by far — it won't crack, peel or fade the way a printed logo eventually can — and it gives a polished, premium look that works especially well on polos, caps and jackets. It's best for logos without fine gradient detail (very thin text or photographic images don't embroider cleanly), and it typically costs more per piece than screen printing at volume.

Quick Guide

Bulk & Budget

Bulk order, simple logo, budget-conscious — go with screen printing.

Full Colour

Full-colour or detailed design, smaller quantity — go with heat transfer.

Premium & Durable

Premium look, long-term durability, polos/jackets — go with embroidery.
